Using Search
Information in the Healthwise®
Knowledgebase is organized into topics and topic sections. To find the
information you want, you can type keywords into the Search box located on every page, or browse through an
alphabetical list of topics from the main search page.
General search tips:
- Think of a few words that describe the
information you want to find.
- Use short terms or
phrases.
- Use related terms or names.
- Check your
spelling (especially for medical terms).
Using the Search box
A Search box appears on every page in the
Healthwise® Knowledgebase. This is often the most convenient way to search for
the information you want. This search method finds matching topics by comparing
the terms you type to the contents of the topic.
When you use the Search box, the results appear as a list of topics
or topic sections that relate to your search term(s).
To use the Search box:
- Type a word or phrase in the Search
box.
- Click the GO button.
- Select
an entry in the results list to view the topic, or type another term in the
New Search box on the results page and search
again.
Using the A to Z lists
If you are unsure how to spell a term, you can browse through
alphabetical lists of topics from links on the main search page. These are
lists of topic names, not terms, so avoid using general
terms, and look for specific medical conditions or medications by name.
To use the A to Z lists:
- Think of the name of the condition,
medication, test, or other information you want to find.
- Select a
letter in the All Topics A to Z list that matches the
first letter in the word you want to find, or select one of the categories in
the Selected Topics lists.
- Browse through
the alphabetical list, or choose a two-letter combination from the list at the
top of the page that matches the first two letters of the name you are trying
to find.
If you are looking for a specific type of information, you can
choose to list topics by topic type. For example, if you are looking for a
medication, it may be easier to search the Medications list under List Selected
Topics.
