Sexual Assault Centres

In British Columbia, sexual assault programs are located in the emergency departments of acute care hospitals in the following cities: Abbotsford, Comox, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Powell River, Surrey, Vancouver, and Victoria.

Many programs have specially trained female nurses, doctors and counselors who respond to a patient's health care needs in a safe, confidential and supportive environment. Medical assessment and treatment, collection of evidence if the person chooses to report the assault to police, free emergency contraception, and medication to prevent or treat sexually transmitted diseases can often be provided.

If you or someone you care about has been sexually assaulted or abused, call 911 or the local emergency number. For confidential information, call one of the services above or the BC NurseLine.
