Who is affected by croupCroup causes swelling and narrowing of the throat and
airway, producing a harsh, barking cough and difficulty breathing. It usually
develops a day or two after the start of an upper respiratory system infection.
Croup most commonly occurs during the late fall and early winter in
preschool-aged children between the ages of 1 and 3 years.1 Adults rarely get croup because their breathing passages are
stronger and larger than children's.
