Who is affected by deep vein thrombosis Venous thrombosis is a common condition. There are no
statistics available for the prevalence of venous thrombosis in Canada. But it
is known that the risk factors for this condition increase as you get
older. In the United States, about 250,000 people are admitted to
a hospital each year because of blood clots that develop in the deep veins
(deep vein thrombosis).1 But
because many people with deep vein thrombosis do not have symptoms, as many as
600,000 people may be affected.2
