Risk factors for high blood pressure (hypertension) include:

  • Family history of high blood pressure.
  • Increased age.
  • Being of black African descent.
  • Inactivity.
  • Diabetes.
  • Being overweight.
  • Sensitivity to salt.
  • Drinking alcohol excessively.
  • Not consuming enough potassium, magnesium, and calcium.
