Chest pain and fever
Mild chest discomfort and a fever may occur with a respiratory illness, such as a cold. Fever is just one symptom of a respiratory illness. Fever of up to 38.5°C (101.3°F) for 3 to 4 days may occur in adults with colds. Fever up to 39°C (102.2°F) for 3 to 4 days is common in children with colds. A respiratory illness will often go away on its own. Home treatment can help relieve fever and other symptoms.
Chest pain with fever
Chest pain with a fever may occur with another more serious problem, such as:
- A lung infection (pneumonia).
- A sudden (acute) inflammation of the pericardium, the membrane sac around the heart (pericarditis).
- Inflammation of the outside lining of the lungs (pleurisy).
When chest pain with a fever seems more serious, an evaluation by your doctor is needed.
