Who is affected by varicose veins

Varicose veins are much more common in women than in men, affecting about 31% of women compared to 17% of men.1 Varicose veins often develop during pregnancy. They usually become less prominent after pregnancy and may disappear completely.

Varicose veins become more common as people age.
